Devotional | 1 Timothy 2:5 AMP
Today's devotional is coming from the book of 1st Timothy 2:5 and it says;
“For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus,”
Before we go any further let's get an understanding of a few terms to fully grasp what is being said here.
First, let's look at what "only" means in the interlinear concordance. It means :
Single, one along
This and no other
This above all others
Unquestionably the best
Alone in a class or category
Having no brother or sister
As single fact or instance and nothing more or different.
It's synonyms are: incomparable, inmitable, matchless, peerless, unequaled, unsurpassable, solely, and exclusive
Next let's look at the term mediator:
It's defined as:
Ambassador
A medium of communication between two contracting parties
One who intervenes between two persons who are at a variable
Broker
Go-between
Intercessor / Interceder
Intermediary
Peacemaker
One who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship or form a compact, or for ratifying covenant
Arbitrator
There have been some very important responsibilities put in place before the foundation of this world as we know it that have been washed over in the body of Christ.
Many struggle, suffer and lack progression because the Kingdom principles that should have catapulted us forward have been taken from their original sources and have been restructured in the hands of men.
What do I mean and what am I talking about? God us responsible to be our source for ALL things, Holy Spirit is responsible to teach us ALL things and Jesus is responsible to mediate ALL things concerning us!
Can you see how we as the body of Christ have shifted off our foundations?
No? Let's explore further...
What we're seeing in the body of Christ today is a shunning of personal and intimate relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Our foundation should be God is my source, Holy Spirit is my teacher and Jesus is my mediator!
Now listen INTENTLY, I'm not saying that we can't or won't use man throughout our lives but this is a strong warning to reposition God back to His foundation!
When it sounds like man is my source, man is my teacher and man is my mediator, God is not pleased!
There is a grave issue of developing trust, loyalty, and covenant with man and one has not put in the same efforts to establish these qualities with our founder...
Here is where flesh takes over, you can see man, the physical, on call facade of human interaction has bewildered our innate spiritual makeup and need for intimacy with our foundation.
Sadly, the body is experiencing leaders who have likened themselves to Jesus.
They have erroneously positioned themselves as the go between for sheep & the Great Shepherd.
Scripture points us to God and not man, so how did this transition happen?
Yes, there was a time throughout biblical history, that we all are most likely familiar with that details how only the priests were holy enough to approach the throne of God.
And then something life altering happened!
Jesus tore the veil.
He conquered death, hell, and the grave, and became the only reason God can now see man!
When God looks down on us, he does not see us as individuals. He sees his holy son, Jesus!
And then, as we petition our mediator Himself steps in and communicates with the father concerning us.
How then can men of any stature like in themselves to such a position?
I cannot doubt that God the Father, God the Son and God, the Holy Spirit is being talked about in congregations and in gatherings globally, but this is what I will say, what's lacking, is the teaching on how to develop real relationship and intimacy with your foundation!
So how should this be applied to any situation? Now this is only for those who, while reading have been convicted of lack of development in your personal relationship and intimacy with God...
When any situation arises, big, small, urgent or non-emergent here are some practical steps to help you reposition God and man.
Pray: The moment any situation occurs, pray, this does not mean you have to wait until you get home or in a private space or your favorite space for that matter, pray where you are! Step away if you have to. Pray aloud or in your heart, which simply translates as without words aloud.
Prayer is a dialogue between you and God. This is most often where many mess up. They speak at God and walk away without allowing God to speak back. Why? Because they are impatient!
2. Wait for God's response: After you pray, and your portion of the dialogue is complete now you must wait for God to speak.
Here is where you learn that sometimes what's urgent to you is not urgent to God, not because what you're experiencing is not important to Him, but because 1. He knew before you extended your petition and 2. He has already answered you.
So what do you do as you wait? You praise and worship God because you trust Him to resolve your request.
During the waiting period many who have not mastered this phase of dialogue begin to put themselves in the "God seat" as I call it. They begin to put action to what they believe would be good for the situation and this is a dangerous way to be. This cancels what was issued in the spirit on your behalf and that wasn't simply good, but was actually God
After the waiting phase, God will unveil His response to your request, including if He requires you to go to any man specifically.
This is how intimacy with God grows. Man will always be God's instruments, but He is very strategic regarding what man it will be. Why? because in His sovereignty and infinite wisdom, there will be some lessons and/or reward for the divine helper that He has instructed you to go to.
God does not always send you. He will also send a divine helper to you, but for the sake of establishing the spiritual protocol that needs urgent restructuring, I won't go in depth on that point here.
Also, note your time of waiting does not depend on you or your circumstances but on God, Holy Spirit has given me proper encouragement to those who believe their circumstances are life and death...
There was a certain man named Jairus, whose daughter was dying. Jesus on the way to Jairus' house, was walking through a crowd, when the woman with the issue of blood touch the hem of his garment and pulled virtue from Him. Do you recall this story? if so, you know that Jairus daughter died. When Jesus arrived the wailing women were there, but that meant nothing to God. Jairus' daughter slept, until Jesus arrived, so know that God has already foreseen your circumstances!
This is why it is imperative, that we recognize there is only one absolute mediator, go-between, ambassador, Intercessor, between man and God, which is the Man Himself, Christ Jesus!
Here are today's Spiritual Workout Questions:
Answer in the comments.

Have you been intentional about your relationship and intimacy with God?
