JEHOVAH NISSI

Knowing and understanding God as your Banner is the point at which hell begins to know your name.

In historical times, banners were used to acknowledge the authority, leader, or cause to which groups and individuals belonged and supported. Banners were flag-like and made of structured materials that glistened to be easily noticed ahead of battle.

In the war between Israel and the Amalekites as Joshua battled on, Moses, Aaron, and Hur understood that they needed a BANNER!

As I studied this in more depth I came to understand that a banner was to be something that was lifted up, it was a standard, a signal, an ensign, and a rallying point. All of these terms are worth the word study as you press on to know and understand with experiential knowledge who God is as Jehovah Nissi.

Exodus‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬ says

“And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.”

‭‭

This very verse changed my understanding in a matter of seconds! When Moses held up his hand, they prevailed but when he let his hand down, his enemy prevailed. Let me pause there a moment and let’s explore the meaning of standard and rallying point.

According to a Google search, one of the descriptions of a standard is a military or ceremonial flag carried on a pole or hoisted on a rope. A rallying point is described as a person, place, event, or idea that motivates people to come together and support a cause or idea. Militaristically speaking, a rallying point is a designated location where soldiers can regroup, reorganize, and receive further instructions during combat or other operations.

Let’s put this into perspective, not only is God our standard, identifying who our Ruler and Authority is but He is also our rallying point. It’s in Him that we regroup, reorganize, and receive further instructions during combat or other operations.

So why does that matter so greatly? What was it about this truth that changed my understanding? Well— it was the revelation put to work in Exodus 17:11. When we properly position God as our BANNER, STANDARD, and RALLYING POINT our enemy has no other recourse except defeat yet when we fail to do so, it is us who becomes utterly defeated!

Through this millisecond I began to recall all of the times when the enemy came into my mind, my health, my finances, my marriage, and my children like a flood and the outcome experienced when I raised my BANNER against him, the wealth of wisdom, strategy, and revelation obtained when I understood God to be my rallying point. And then I took into account all of the times when I had not yet realized my error in battle!

Our enemy needs us to think our strength, will and understanding is enough to wage war with him. He needs us to be boastful not only in our minimized thinking of him but also in our overestimation of our humanity but it’s in God, Jehovah Nissi is he a DEFEATED FOE!

Exodus‬ ‭17‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-Nissi: for he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

‭‭

It is God who makes war with every spiritual giant. Yes— as Moses did we too have a part in the labor but ultimately it is the promises of God that solidify our enemy’s eternal defeat!
