BEWARE OF KICKING AGAINST THE GOADS!

Acts‬ ‭9‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”

The idea of kicking against the goads derives from the functionality of a plowman. This sharp-pointed tool is used to prod or guide animals, particularly oxen, during plowing and other agricultural tasks. 

If you are a visionary person, you can envision the sight of an oxen kicking against this extremely dangerous instrument. 

While the goad or prick is used as an instrument to steer the oxen in the right direction, its sharp effects when encountered alert the oxen that they have lost their way. 

At creation, the goad was not designed with fatality in mind but rather with the intention of a tangible representation of being off course. 

Now, how does this apply to us prophetically? Metaphorically speaking, for the flock of God, the goad represents the destruction we encounter when we travel off God’s course for our lives. 

We like the oxen kick against the goads when we refuse to acknowledge and even become nonresponsive to Holy Spirit's inward and outward course corrections. 

Our RESISTANCE to align with the will of God on any matter is the exact picture of us kicking against the goads. God’s perfect will for earth and its inhabitants is only made manifest through our obedience to God’s divine instructions, guiding us to places of purpose and the fulfillment of His eternal plans. 

The scriptural representation in Saul was that of someone who not only thought that they were doing what was morally right but also overzealously helping God accomplish His will. That is the case for many in today’s time. When we partner with God, the instructions won’t come from us but rather from Him. The outcome can ONLY produce His righteousness and advance His kingdom. 

One of the greatest ways we kick against the goads is by the diabolical arrows of “independence & self-reliance”. This errant construct has erected strongholds in the lives of the people of God with the agenda of them developing their own will rather than submitting and yielding to the will of God! 

Saul and many of us alike require a Damascus moment to purge us of this mind-blinding religiosity. 

To overcome the inevitable ruin of repetitively kicking against the goads, we must evaluate our choices and incorrect beliefs backed by the Word and the Spirit! 

Much of the world is kicking against the goads, are you?
